Dialogue

Kate: Why didn’t you tell me you had phlebitis and were in bed for a week? We kept talking and texting, but you didn’t say a word.
Jane: You were on vacation and there wasn’t anything you could have done.
Kate: How did you get deep vein thrombosis?
Jane: Evidently from flying from New York to Los Angeles. The plane was packed and I was squeezed into the middle seat so, I didn’t move for the entire flight.
Kate: Okay, so you were dehydrated and stagnant.
Jane: Stagnant? Oh I get it. Yes, I was in one place and I didn’t move.
Kate: Do you have to do anything special for your DVT or are you all done with treatment?
Jane: I have to keep taking anti-coagulants for three months and rest for another week. So I think I’ll catch up on my reading, watch some videos and just relax. It actually sounds pretty good.
Kate: Yes it does. But let’s see…deep vein thrombosis, and 2 weeks rest versus going to work and having freedom. I think I’d choose work.

Think about it

  1. How did Jane get a deep vein thrombosis?
  2. What does Jane have to do?
  3. Which would you prefer: to rest for a while as a patient like Jane or to work hard with a healthy body like Kate?
